Capstar® Overdose Information

Why is Capstar not working?

EFFECTS OF TOXICITY
Nitenpyram is a neorutoxin which kills fleas by inhibiting central nervous system, resulting in paralysis and death of the insect. Nitenpyram is generally safe for use in pets including pregnant or nursing animals, however, very high doses can cause toxicity.
So, the fleas that you see after the administration of Capstar are the newly hatched ones, and not those that were already there. To avoid the re-infestation, you may either need to administer Capstar every day, or follow its administration by a long-term parasite control which targets the early life-stages of fleas.

What are the dangers of Capstar?
The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after giving CAPSTAR: lethargy/depression, vomiting, itching, decreased appetite, diarrhea, hyperactivity, incoordination, trembling, seizures, panting, allergic reactions including hives, vocalization, salivation, fever, and nervousness.
At least six hours after giving the Capstar, bathe the pets. For best results use a mild shampoo, NOT a flea shampoo as it will strip the oils in the skin and prevents the topical products from being as effective.
